This is what I'd do if I were tasked with redesigning the Google tyepeface.

Get rid of the bevel. It looks shit.

Use either of the typefaces featured in the deviation:

Trajan (Probably the oldest typeface in the world)
Garamond (Probably the oldest font in the world).

I think using such typefaces would be a nod to google's timelessness as well as a nod to how much of a useful tool it is for historians and designers alike (among many other uses).

you're right, the bevel is shit. never thought about that, but it's true^^
i would prefer the garamond version, it's more recognizable

I agree, the bevel does look bad. The second looks good, not so much a fan of the all-caps one.

The all caps one is only available as such. That's Trajan, the oldest typeface in the word (not the oldest font though).

I like it, it's clean, however I'd prefer it with more vibrant colours. A brighter yellow, for example.

The colours weren't really important at this stage. Just the typefaces.
